Piccola suonatrice di flauto

2011 | digital print on canvas

While developing her ideas on Savoldo’s painting, Meneghini traveled back to her childhood and her first experiences with music by learning how to play the recorder. Since she was six years old, Meneghini has had a photograph that was taken by her cousin – a picture of a girl playing the flute – hanging in her bedroom. Building on these particular coincidences of individual history, experience and memory – and, in parallel, the collective imagination – Meneghini wonders about the identity of the young musician, about her thoughts and feelings, and how they might be described today.
